Place Based Social Value in Action

At Social Value 360, we design and deliver social value strategies that create measurable impact for both communities and clients.

One example involved leading a place based social value programme for a major Defence infrastructure project in Barrow-in-Furness; an area facing economic inactivity, low educational attainment, and growing workforce demands. Drawing on local needs analysis and stakeholder engagement, we were presented with a key challenge: large numbers of unsuccessful apprenticeship applicants at risk of disengagement and long-term unemployment.

In response, we developed a targeted employability and recruitment programme in partnership with local organisations and operational teams. The initiative aligned business need with community impact, supporting local residents into sustainable career opportunities while strengthening the client’s future workforce pipeline.

The programme achieved significant results, with over 60% of participants progressing into apprenticeship opportunities following security clearance. It also became the foundation for a wider 18-month social value strategy focused on employment, skills, inclusive recruitment, procurement, and community engagement.

To date, the programme has generated £13m in independently validated social value, representing 33% of contract value, and has since been recognised as a scalable model for wider delivery across their supply chain.

This work reflects our approach at Social Value 360: combining strategic insight, local engagement, and measurable outcomes to deliver lasting social impact.
